Zoo Atlanta: Ping Ping & Fu Shuang — the Pandas Have Landed

Updated October 3, 2026

Zoo Atlanta welcomed two new giant pandas on September 27, 2026: male Ping Ping (平平) and female Fu Shuang (福双), both born at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in China. They arrived under a new 10-year conservation and research agreement and were completing quarantine behind the scenes in early October — not yet visible to the public.

Current status (as of Oct 3, 2026): Ping Ping and Fu Shuang are in routine quarantine and not yet on view. Zoo Atlanta has not announced a public debut date. Watch zooatlanta.org for updates.

The arrival: September 27, 2026

Ping Ping and Fu Shuang flew from China to Atlanta on a dedicated "FedEx Panda Express" Boeing 777, touching down at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on the morning of September 27, 2026 (US Eastern time). Zoo Atlanta called it the start of "a new era for Atlanta pandas." The pair came under a 10-year International Cooperative Research Agreement on Giant Panda Conservation between Zoo Atlanta and the China Wildlife Conservation Association — the same framework used by other US zoos.

Atlanta's previous pandas — Lun Lun, Yang Yang and their US-born cubs — returned to China in 2024 when that agreement ended. The new pair fills the gap.

Will there be a panda cam at Zoo Atlanta?

Zoo Atlanta ran a panda cam when it previously had pandas on exhibit. The cam page (zooatlanta.org/panda-cam) currently hosts program FAQs, and as of early October 2026 the new pandas are behind the scenes in quarantine. A live cam almost certainly returns when the pandas are on exhibit, but Zoo Atlanta has not yet announced a date. Check the zoo's official pages for the first viewing announcement.
